In 2023, 6,398 veterans died by suicide. Every single one of them made it home. Every single one survived the thing that was supposed to be the danger — and then couldn't survive the quiet.
The isolation. The weight they were carrying alone. The culture that told them asking for help was weakness and that suffering in silence was strength.
That number is not a statistic. That is our brothers and sisters. And it does not have to be that way.
The primary ingredient is not weakness. It is isolation. It is the wall. It is a code that says silence is strength.
This course exists because that number is not acceptable.
I came home from the Gulf War and I didn't know what to do with what I brought back with me. I had done my job. I had served my country. And then I came home and sat in rooms full of people who loved me and felt completely alone.
I drank to take the edge off. I raged at things that didn't deserve it. I went somewhere else inside my own head and called it fine. I told myself I was handling it. I wasn't handling it. I was burying it.
I am a Gulf War veteran. I have PTSD. I have anxiety with adjustment disorder from chronic pain. I have dealt with mania, depression, and alcoholism. I am not writing this from the other side of all of it, clean and sorted and fixed. I am writing this from inside the fight — because that's where I still am. And that's where most of you are too.
This book is not written by a civilian therapist who studied veterans from a safe distance. It is written by a man who has lived what you are living, who has carried what you are carrying, and who has spent years learning that there is another way to carry it. Not easier. Not painless. But less alone. And more honest than the silence.
This is the manual nobody gave us.
This is not therapy. It is not a support group. It is a mission briefing for the hardest terrain most veterans will ever navigate: the inside. Every week maps book chapters to workbook exercises, pre-recorded video lessons, and a live group session.
Participants don't just read about the work — they do it. In cohorts of 6–12 veterans, facilitated by veteran peer facilitators who speak the language.

This is the work. The part nobody briefed you on. And you don't have to do it alone.
